FAQ

  • Why is it hot?

The heat softens the muscles and opens the joints, making the body more malleable and able to move in and out of postures more easily. It increases blood flow to help with injuries. It makes you sweat creating a great detox for your system.

It creates health and healing due to a phenomenon called hormesis or the idea that short, intermittent bursts of certain stressors on the body such as extreme heat or cold, can actually trigger a cascade of cellular processes that enhance overall health, slow aging, and make you more resilient to future stress (both physical and mental).

  • How do I get there?

There is excellent public transport links to Wimbledon central- overground, underground, tram and bus. From the station there is a footpath which begins at little Waitrose/Metro bank. It follows the railway line, about 10 minutes walk then turning right and going under the footbridge to Elm Grove. Red Studios is inside big red brick building with the circular towers, on the left of the cul de sac.

The 131 and 57 buses go from Wimbledon down Worple Rd - get off at Darlastan Rd stop and walk to Elm Grove, walk to the bottom of the cul de sac and the building is on your right.

There are bike racks for you to lock up your bike if you cycle.

  • Is it ok if I'm a beginner??

Yes - beginners are welcome in any class, however as a first class we would recommend Bikram or Yin as these are moderate to slow paced.

Your body will take several classes to become acclimitised to the heat so pace yourself, know its ok to sit down and take breaks if you need them. The more often you can come to class the faster your body will become used to it. Beware - the heat can be very addictive!!

  • What do I bring?

Bring a yoga mat, towel to cover the mat, second towel for a shower, and refillable water bottle.

We do have a few spare mats for £1 hire at reception if you forget yours.

  • What do I wear?

Shorts for men and optional vest top. Leggings or shorts and sports bra or vest top for women. Stretchy lycra clothing is more comfortable than loose baggy clothes once you get sweaty.

  • Is there parking?

There’s plenty of street parking in Elm Grove and the surrounding streets.

Be sure to read the street signs to see if you need to pay while you’re in class as the parking inspectors in the area are very active.
