All you need is an open mind and a willing attitude

We get it - your first time coming to the studio can feel a little intimidating. A yoga studio that’s heated to almost 40 degrees, full of people you don’t know, moving through shapes your body has probably never made before. So here’s some useful tips and advice to make sure you get the most out of your first class. Trust us, you’ll never look back.

  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Keep your fluids up before the class and try to drink a litre or two of water before coming. And best to keep your food intake on the lighter side before class.

  • Arrive a little earlier

It’s worth getting to the studio about 15-20 minutes before your class. This will give you the chance to spend a little time in the heat and acclimatise before the class starts.

  • Slow is better

Your first few classes are going to be challenging so it’s best to take it slow. Sit down and rest whenever your body tells you to and focus on your breathing.

  • We're here to help

We’re always around to answer any questions you might have. Maybe you have an injury you’re worried about or just need some guidance for your first class.

From the first visit, the yoga practices hands you the keys to unlock a new , empowered level of self!

A marathon, not a sprint

Once you have adjusted to the heat and your body has gone through the initial opening up and detoxification stages you’ll start feeling the incredible health benefits from doing Hot Yoga.

Take your time

Be patient with yourself as you bring this yoga into your life. The postures will challenge you in many ways and you are different both physically and mentally every time you practise.

Stay in your breath

Breathing in and out through the nose is will help you stay present, calm, focused and in control. Your breath will teach you exactly what you can do, and gently guide you through your practice.

Focus on your alignment

Focus on the correct alignment of each posture and the depth will follow naturally. Try not focus on how other students are performing – it’s your yoga practice and yours alone.

Stay in your stillness

When you come out of a posture, bring yourself back to your stillness. You will feel the urge to fidget or wipe away sweat. Ignore this and focus on breathing calmly to stay in your stillness.

Smile & enjoy your yoga journey

You will gain amazing new physical and mental qualities through your practice and it’s more about recognising these than about worrying about your final destination.

FAQs

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring a yoga mat to practice on, however we have a few spares for hire fir if you forgets yours. You’ll also need a towel to cover your mat and a large bottle of water.

What should I wear?

This is really down to you, but we would say the main thing is that you’re comfortable. You’re going to get sweaty, so we advise wearing similar clothes that you might wear to the gym. Most of our female yogis wear leggings and a tank top or sports bra and our male yogis tend to practice in shorts with or without a t-shirt.

Is there parking available?

There’s plenty of street parking in Elm Grove and the surrounding streets. Be sure to read the street signs to see if you need to pay while you’re in class as the parking inspectors in the area are very active.

Do you have changing rooms?

Yes. We have male and female changing rooms at the studio. Both changing rooms are fully equipped with showers, toilets and hairdryers so you can feel totally fresh after class.

You’re also welcome to leave your bags in the changing room while you’re in class

How do I get there?

There is excellent public transport links to Wimbledon central- overground, underground, tram and bus. From the station there is a footpath which begins at little Waitrose/Metro bank. It follows the railway line, about 10 minutes walk turning right and going under the footbridge to Elm Grove. Red Studios is inside big red brick building with the circular towers, on the left of the cul de sac. Have a look at the video here to help you find your way.

There are bike racks for you to lock up your bike if you cycle.

How many people will be in the class?

Our main studio has space for around 35 people, but most classes average between 20 and 30 people depending on the time of year.
