The teachers

Our teachers at Surya are an incredibly talented group of yogis who have each had their own inspiring journey to the mat. We asked them to describe themselves in three words and tell us a little more about what you can expect in their classes.

  • Alex

    Passionate • Dedicated • Loving

Yoga is coming home to myself; a healing journey of reclaiming my body, mind and spirit.

My classes are about creating a safe and supportive space for students to explore their practice as a cathartic celebration of the miracle of life. I aim to inspire others through my own journey and how yoga has helped me to transform my life. As a musician, I absolutely love being creative with my playlists and also weave live music into my classes.

As a practitioner, I have always loved Bikram and am so grateful for how it has provided me with a foundation to rebuild my life. Over the years I have branched out to other practices and am especially passionate about Aerial yoga and it’s power to open the heart. I love how the hammock helps people to conquer their fears, build confidence and try things they never thought they would be capable of!

  • Aurelie

    Dedicated • Empathetic • Inspiring

Yoga is a way of life, a path, a way to connect with myself and grow.

Expect guidance and encouragement to help you build your own practice from the inside. Find your balance, strength, alignment, and boost your confidence! Every class holds its own energy but be sure you'll come out transformed in some way.

! love teaching and practicing many styles of Yoga. Bikram has always been the most accessible style and it holds its own special powers for back pain sufferers like me. Aerial offers the added benefit of traction poses that you can’t get from mat-based yoga and is amazing for back health too!

  • Kee

    Thoughtful • Kind • Relaxed

Yoga for me is healing - physically, mentally and emotionally.

In my class, I create a calm and compassionate environment to bring awareness to your breath and attention to your alignment.

I enjoy a conscious, mindful practice where the collective energy helps you along.

  • Yaz

    Colourful • Energetic • Friendly

Yoga is what gets us out of the head and moves us into the heart. The mind is a chaotic place and spending too much time in our thoughts stops us from seeing the world it really is.

I help my students feel empowered through their yoga practice. I offer hands on adjustments to help students go deeper into the pose and I encourage my students to go beyond the physical. Yoga is an energetic practice and in my classes you will start to feel the energy you create for yourself.

I like to teach strong dynamic practices and love watching my students practice develop over time.

  • Salma

    Kind • Generous • Friendly

Yoga is what keeps me sane. It’s what keeps me aware of my breath, brings me joy and contentment, and allows me to connect with the most glorious community. It’s simply the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

Expect a soulful, intention-filled and energetic yoga class.

I absolutely LOVE teaching a flowy vinyasa class. Equally I love the serenity and stillness of teaching a yin class. Try both and feel the Yang and yin that we all need.

  • Sarah

    Laid-back • Loyal • Understanding

Yoga is the backbone of everything in my life.. the constant support through ups and downs, the grounding force that draws me back to myself over and over, again and again.

I teach Vinyasa Flow and my focus is on breath, moving steadily through sequences of postures with clear instructions and options for different level. Whether you are beginner or intermediate you can do my class.

I love the rhythm of Vinyasa Flow and moving with breath so you become one with the movement.

  • Shona

    Supportive • Engaging • Reliable

We all have to start somewhere and there is never any ending to where Yoga can take you…everything we do in our lives is some form of Yoga. There are always ways to grow and develop and this practice allows us to see ourselves as we truly are.

In my classes I encourage a self reflective practice. I often start with reflections and encourage students to support themselves and each other throughout the class. I do hands on adjustments, especially in Bikram classes and often back and foot massages. I endeavour to create an atmosphere of support and nurture, a safe space for students to explore their practice and their process.

Each form of yoga brings its own unique benefits. I love the diversity of being able to teach Bikram, yin, vinyasa and HIIT classes. Each one has its place. I began my yoga journey with bikram.

  • Raj

    Honest • Passionate • Resilient

Yoga has been such an amazing teacher in my life. It’s led me to place where my breath and movement now informed me about who I am every day. Who I’m being and where am at!!

I have learned through yoga that my body is a map to my soul and that my body speaks a language that is designed for me to hear and learn from.

Everyone’s body and practice are different in the sense that the language that the body speaks is entirely different from one person to the next but the template is the same. And the journey is to a deeper truer aspect of ourselves.

Our bodies, our breath, our minds, and our choices are being refined in the laboratory that is our yoga mat.

And we are this incredible experiment that is life!
